Go Tri Something New

When the World Triathlon Series came to Leeds it generated a lot of interest.  People were inspired to get involved with the sport so Leeds City Council, British Triathlon and Sport England launched the Go Tri Something New Programme.  The sessions provide a chance to get into triathlon activity in a fun and safe way.

The Bridge Project asked if the football team could Go Tri too and the answer was yes!  So thirteen participants from The Bridge and Aspire were put through 6 weeks of training by Michelle, Fiona, Mark and Simon to prepare for their own Go Tri event at the end of August.  On the day the sun shone at John Charles Centre for Sport as everyone was put through their paces: 5 laps of the stadium on adapted bikes followed by 5 lengths of the track.  Then it was into the pool for the swim.  In all 5 people completed the Duathlon (won by James) and 8 people completed the Triathlon (won by Alan).   Everyone who took part was presented with a Go Tri T-shirt and water bottle.

The effort and determination of all involved was a joy to watch and we’re delighted there’s going to be another chance to do the Go Tri Programme again soon.  Hopefully next time some ladies will take up the challenge thrown down by the men!
