Aspire was delighted to take over running of the Becklin Centre Cafe back in July 2017.
The handover went very smoothly, Muka and Tom (the existing staff) successfully TUPE transferred to Aspire and there was no loss of service for the many people who regularly use the cafe.
One of our ambitions for the cafe was to offer permitted earnings work experience to some of the people we support in the east/north east area of Leeds. Therefore a lot of ‘behind-the-scenes’ activity has been going on to identify and recruit five cafe trainees. Each of them visited the cafe and they have undertaken their induction training, food hygiene qualification and mental health training.
We decided to celebrate these achievements by holding an official launch of the new cafe on the day the cafe trainees began work. Lots of people came along to celebrate with us including care managers and partners from Leeds & York Partnership Foundation Trust.
