Work Placements – Jessica & Laura’s Story 2025

Since 2017 we’ve been proud to offer work placement opportunities for students for a growing number of years. This year, we happily hosted Jessica & Laura and this is their story…

Jessica and Laura are Occupational Therapy students who have been on placement with Rothwell Fulfilling Lives Day services. celebrating all the support the customers have given us with our project while on placement.

We have been working with customers to create an Occupational Therapy project, and through exploring customers varied interests and needs, we wanted to create a project that everyone would find meaningful and benefit from.

From this we have developed a project around Active Recreation and Sensory Exploration. This has involved creating a manual which outlines adaptations that can support customers to participate in a variety of activities such as basketball, magnetic fishing and drumming. The customers at Rothwell have been very welcoming and supported us to develop our project by providing feedback and by helping us to make crafts for activities. For example, customers helped us to craft skittles by painting plastic bottles. We have also filled some skittles with rice, pasta and water and glitter to support sensory exploration.

On our last day of placement, customers engaged with our activities by playing skittles and using the skittles for sensory exploration. Following this, customers received certificates for their participation. We would like to thank all of the customers and staff at the Rothwell hub for their support and participation in our project as we could not have done this without you!
